Short biography
Ulf Paulsson is a retired, associate professor at Lund University, School of Economics and Management. He is Licentiate in Economics and PhD in Engineering Logistics and has many years of experience from research, teaching and tutoring within Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
Research
My subject-based background is mainly logistics and supply chain management and about 20 years ago I became increasingly interested in the vulnerability of modern society, with special focus on disruptions and disturbances in the flows. In 2001, a group of researchers with similar interest met in Crewe in England and shared experiences and discussed what our subject area would be called. We agreed after some discussion upon Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) and formed the ISCRiM (International Supply Chain Risk Management) research network.
Since then I have researched within this field and in various ways published my research results. I have also found that the subject area has become increasingly hot every year. Among other things, my PhD dissertation “On Managing Disruption Risks in the Supply Chain” (2007) has been downloaded from over 115 different countries in the world.
Outreach
My focus now as a new retiree is to update and popularize my research results and publish them readily available to anyone to download at no cost. The popularization idea also states that each individual publication must have a limited number of pages, usually 10-30 pages, and a clear focus.
Behind this endeavor, I believe that the knowledge about the vulnerability of society and what we can do to reduce the vulnerability must be spread to more educations and businesses than today and also to a broader public.

First ever ISCRiM meeting held at the Crewe Campus of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).
ISCRiM was started by Clare Brindley and Prof Bob Ritchie from MMU and the photograph includes Clare Brindley, Bob Ritchie, John Morris from MMU, George Zsisidin, Robert Lindroth, Andreas Norman and Ulf Paulsson, who were all founder members.
This was ISCRiM’s first dinner held at the White Lion Hotel, Cheshire, England. The initial meeting grew from a paper presented by John Morris in Canada.
